English Language Arts
Program Mission/Purpose: Through a balanced approach to literacy, English Language Arts education in the Worcester Public Schools empowers students to think critically and strategically, communicate effectively, and fully support arguments. Students will read, comprehend, and critique a range of complex texts and media, write and present for various audiences and purposes, as well as develop habits of reading for enjoyment. Overarching Evidence: Students will be able to read and comprehend a range of increasingly complex text in order to communicate ideas effectively in writing by using text-based evidence. |
Grade 6 English Language Arts
6th grade students are expected to read and comprehend literature and informational texts at grade level. In addition, they will write in all genres including argument, informative and narrative.
Grade 7 English Language Arts
Students will gain adequate mastery of a range of skills and applications that meet 7th grade-specific standards and further develop skills and understandings mastered in preceding grades.
Grade 8 English Language Arts
Students will gain adequate mastery of a range of skills and applications that meet 8th grade-specific standards and further develop skills and understandings mastered in preceding grades.
English I
Students will gain mastery of a range of skills and applications so that they can read and comprehend grade level complex texts, write for a range of purposes, participate in collaborative discussions and use the conventions of the English language correctly.
English II
Students will gain mastery of a range of skills and applications so that they can read and comprehend grade level complex texts, write for a range of purposes, participate in collaborative discussions and use the conventions of the English language correctly.
English III
Students will gain mastery of a range of skills and applications so that they can read and comprehend grade level complex texts, write for a range of purposes, participate in collaborative discussions and use the conventions of the English language correctly.
English IV
Students will gain mastery of a range of skills and applications so that they can read and comprehend grade level complex texts, write for a range of purposes, participate in collaborative discussions and use the conventions of the English language correctly.
